A Callaway Settles in Florida
“October 1, 1856, Rev. Pitt Milner Callaway (Sr.), a Baptist minister of Eufaula, Alabama, made frequent missionary trips to St. Andrews Bay… Saw the wonderful advantage of this section of the State and acquired US Land patent to the certain land…” – Lillian Carlisle West, c. 1940s
Our new exhibit comes from the archives of historic documents and includes original writings, plats, and more from Lillian Carlisle West, wife of the founder of Panama City, George West.
The exhibit gives insight into the arrival of her maternal grandfather, Reverend Pitt Milner Callaway, Sr., and the arrival of Lillian and her parents half a century later. The area they settled in became the City of Callaway.
This exhibit runs from August 6 – September 28, 2024.
