This collection of passes tells us of George West’s life. He worked for the Chicago & North-Western Railroad at the Escanaba, Michigan yard, located at the port on Lake Michigan from 1873 to 1900.
A few passes include his first wife Adella. There are also passes for sleeping cars, Western Union Telegraph, and American Express shipping. Some passes after 1898 include “…& son & daughter”. They were actually his grandchildren he became guardian of after the deaths of his son and daughter-in-law.
From 1901 through 1905 George worked for the Chicago Terminal Transfer Railroad. In 1906 he moved to St. Andrews permanently.
